Community Guidelines

Last updated: July 2026

NearbyTutor works because tutors, students, and parents treat each other with respect. These guidelines define the standard we hold everyone to.

Respect

Treat every person with dignity regardless of background.

Safety

Especially for children. Zero tolerance for harm.

Honesty

Be truthful about qualifications, availability, and feedback.

Accountability

Own your actions — follow through on commitments.

1. Who these guidelines apply to

These guidelines apply to everyone who uses NearbyTutor — students, parents, tutors, and school administrators. All users agree to these guidelines when they create an account or book a session.

2. What we expect

Please do

  • Be punctual — respect each other's time by arriving or connecting on time.
  • Be honest — only claim qualifications and experience you actually have.
  • Be respectful — use professional, courteous language in all communications.
  • Be constructive — give genuine, helpful feedback in your review.
  • Be patient — learning takes time, and so does teaching well.
  • Be clear — communicate your expectations, cancellations, and concerns promptly.

3. What is not allowed

Not permitted

  • Harass, intimidate, or disrespect other users — including tutors, students, parents, or platform staff.
  • Discriminate on the basis of religion, caste, gender, age, disability, or any other characteristic.
  • Share private contact details or personal information of other users publicly.
  • Bypass the platform credit system by sharing contact details in public bio or profile fields before a request is accepted.
  • Post false qualifications, fake credentials, or misleading profile information.
  • Attempt to manipulate reviews by offering incentives or applying pressure.
  • Use the platform to advertise external tutoring services, competing platforms, or unrelated products.
  • Engage in any form of inappropriate conduct with minors.

4. Safeguarding minors

The safety of students under 18 is our highest priority. All tutors who teach minors must pass identity verification. Any form of inappropriate conduct towards a minor — verbal, physical, or digital — will result in immediate permanent ban and referral to law enforcement.

Students under 18 should only use the platform with parental knowledge and consent. Parents are encouraged to monitor sessions, particularly for home-visit arrangements with new tutors.

If you witness or suspect unsafe behaviour involving a minor, report it immediately to our support team at support@nearbytutor.in or open a ticket in the support section. We respond promptly to safeguarding reports.

5. Off-platform contact & credit bypass

NearbyTutor is a listing directory that connects tutors with students. Once a tutor accepts a student's request, contact details are unlocked, and all future lessons, scheduling, and payments happen directly between the tutor and the student/parent off-platform. NearbyTutor is not a party to these sessions and holds no liability.

To maintain a safe, fair, and trustworthy environment, you must not bypass our connection system. This means:

  • Do not share your phone number, email, address, social media links, or website URLs in public bio fields, profile descriptions, or messages before a request is officially accepted.
  • Do not use contact details obtained on the platform to recruit users to competing tutoring networks, agencies, or external services.
  • Do not send unsolicited advertisements, commercial offers, or spam to other users.
  • Do not engage in harassment, unwanted follow-ups, or inappropriate communication.

Attempting to bypass the Nearby Credits system or violating these guidelines is a serious breach of our Terms of Service, and will result in immediate profile suspension or permanent ban.

6. Reviews & feedback

Reviews are the foundation of trust on NearbyTutor. We ask all users to:

  • Leave honest, specific reviews based on your actual experience.
  • Avoid reviews that are excessively personal or unrelated to the session.
  • Not offer payment or favours in exchange for reviews.
  • Not create fake accounts to leave reviews.

We reserve the right to remove reviews that violate these guidelines.

7. Enforcement

To maintain platform safety, NearbyTutor reserves the absolute right to investigate any reports and take action on violations. Violations of these guidelines may result in:

  • Warning: For minor or first-time infractions, accompanied by corrective guidance.
  • Temporary suspension: Ranging from 7 to 30 days, during which your profile is hidden and platform access is restricted. Used for repeated or moderate violations.
  • Permanent ban: Immediate and irreversible removal of your account, profile, and any associated Nearby Credits. Used for serious violations, fraud, safety risks, or severe breaches.
  • Legal action: We cooperate fully with law enforcement where criminal conduct, minor endangerment, or fraud is involved.

We use a combination of user reports, flags, and manual reviews by our moderation team to monitor and enforce these guidelines. We do not disclose our specific review methods to prevent evasion.

8. How to report a violation

If you see content or behaviour that violates these guidelines:

  1. Go to our Support section and submit a support ticket to the admin.
  2. Email our support team at support@nearbytutor.in.

All reports are handled with the utmost care and confidentiality to protect the privacy and safety of our community members, in line with platform safety procedures.

9. Appeals

If your account has been suspended or content removed and you believe it was in error, you may appeal by going to the Support section and sending a ticket directly to the administrator, or by emailing support@nearbytutor.in with "Appeal:" in the subject line. Our team will review your appeal within 5 business days. Our decision on appeals is final.
